Mystic Trails (10) Levitation At State Line

MYSTIC TRAILS (10)

Levitation At State Line

Int: Madam Ellis's Bordello-Tomei's Bedroom-4 P.M.

Narrator

"Tomei had no sooner went upstairs from the short meeting with the Sheriff and his card playing buddies, then had already set up her cardboard Pentagram, now laying out on the floor, putting out her various crystals at certain points on the symbol. She seeked a chant in her book of magic, something regarding the task to locate, stop, or at least slow down John Dolson's progression at fleeing Kansas. Once again, Tomei was dealing with something she never tried before...question is, would it work?"

Tomei to herself

"Oh Obla, my messengers to the powers in the heavens...please hear my request to halt the progress of the evil who is escaping our grasp...make sure he understands his dilemma and learns fear, and respect to your control...Somba, Altoy, Broma, Satcha, Cornal, Solice...in your names I implore...my request, to unify within your powers I bequest, Amen..."

Narrator

"And with that she witnessed the crystal hanging from the thin string start to spin on it's own power...then magically lock up on a corner of the Pentagram. She smiled, knowing something would happen...but what?"

(Scene Switch)

Ext: Oregon Trail-50 miles out of Dolson

Narrator

"John Dolson was running his horse east at full gallop using buggy whip almost constantly.
Unbeknownst to him to him, several Indian Scouts had began following him thinking that perhaps he had tobacco...maybe firewater!
At the point of complete exhaustion, the horse just stops dead in in his tracks, throwing Dolson out of the buggy...
But, instead of slamming his head into a group of rocks, he mysteriously levitated, slowing his progression in mid air, gently floating down onto his feet, completely unscathed.
Just standing there, realizing within himself what had just occurred, he started shaking for a moment, as his body had prepared for shock...wondering to himself what saved him from a most certain carnage. The Indians halted their progression, too...having witnessed the actual levitation, they thought he might have special powers, perhaps a man of the cloth...they got off their horses, got on their knees and bowed down before him.
He just stood there, acknowledging their presence, putting his hands together in praise, accepting their respect and his obvious survival.
Soon, his horse walked back up to him, seemingly rested, but without the carriage that had torn loose and smashed against the rocks.
He went back and retrieved his night roll and made a quick make shift saddle. Making a haphazard mount, he tried to usher the horse to head east, but the horse continued to refuse, even with a continued barrage of kicking and slapping.
Finally, Dolson realized what was happening...he was going back to Dolson one way or the other. For some reason, John Dolson felt the infliction of carnal involvement. He felt it's presence and heard the words of the spirit world, he suddenly understood his fate, and stopped his complaint...John was coming home!"

(Scene Switch)

Int: Sheriff's Office-6 P.M.

Narrator

"Tomei had come down to see the Sheriff, not knowing what...if anything had occurred."

Tomei coming into office

"Got a moment Sheriff?"

Sheriff

"Sure young lady, what did your spirit world have to say?"

Tomei shrugging shoulders

"Not sure really...just have to wait and see...you know they keep their own clock up there...do things at their own pace, all I can do is make a request and see what happens?"

Sheriff

"Well, I'm thinking that Dolson...well he's already outside of Kansas...but what do I know, you've surprised me before..."

Tomei walking over to front window, looking around out to dusty street

"Well, best I can figure is that all the spirits must have been people at one time down here...you know, one time or the other...so I'm thinking they must get in their moods, too...maybe some days better than others?"

Sheriff

"So, let me get this straight...they get around to things when they feel like it, nothing automatic here?"

Tomei looking concerned as she views dusty street

"They get cranky too...oh my God...Argus is gone!"

Sheriff

"What the heck girl, did you have him tied up right?"

Tomei

"Positive...something, somebody untied him, he's gone...on a mission, got something he needs to do!"

(1 Hour Later)

Tomei has fallen asleep on bench in Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff and Deputy playing cards.

Tomei wakes up, hearing horses galloping up to front door.

Tomei

"They're here!"

Sheriff

"Who's here?"

Tomei looking against window

"It's Argus, it's Argus, and he got Mister Dolson in tow!"

Sheriff looking out window seeing Argus with broken reins of Dolson's horse in his mouth

"Looks like Dolson got himself an escort, wonder where Argus found them at?"

Deputy

"Where's his buggy?"

Sheriff

"Must have had an accident or something?"

Deputy

"No Sheriff, Dolson don't look banged up or anything, something not right?"

Dolson slides off make shift saddle and walks into office

"Well, Sheriff...I'm giving up...tired of running from something, some force that's bigger than myself...do what you want with me..."

Sheriff

"Okay Dolson, but what happened to that fancy buggy of yours?"

Dolson

"Crashed on the rocks at around the 50 mile marker out of here..."

Deputy

"Then why ain't you all banged up...you ain't got no scratches or nothing?"

Dolson pointing over to Tomei

"Maybe you should ask her...I swear Sheriff...somebody grabbed me from no where, like   invisible, and floated me down...I swear Sheriff, I haven't had a drop to drink, no elixir from the Doc, it was almost like, it was almost like the Angels had me in their hands, never had anything like it happen to me like that before...somebody saved me...I don't know what to think?"

Tomei

"Guess you got a purpose, things to do, things to make better...they give second chances sometimes...I 'spect you better make best use of it?"

Sheriff

"What are you saying girl?"

Tomei

"I imagine he pooped on himself somewhere along the ways...so a good dipping, maybe a change of clothes...we need some results here...all I know is the spirits saved his britches...that's for sure!

Mystic Trails (9) Legal Retention

MYSTIC TRAILS (9)

Legal Retention

Narrator

"Now that Judge Timmons had lifted the ban on preventing prosecution of John Dolson, the Sheriff was free to prosecute in whatever direction he wanted. Only thing was getting the word back to him as the Western Union telegraphed only so many times a day, and then you had to get an errand boy to bring the telegraph to your location, assuming they paid the extra 3 cents to do so. What no one knew at the time, is that Judge Timmons covered both sides of the tracks and also notified Dolson himself of his expected arrest for the attempted hold up of the Wells Fargo stage. The Judge had no problem adding the 6 cents for personal delivery to both parties!"

Int: Sheriff's Office-9 A.M.

Sheriff

"Well, that Jenkins guy, what a character he is...went up and took Silvia's chickens, but apparently ate them all before we I was able to apprehend him..."

Deputy (Mike) laughing

"Nothing to do if he ate all the evidence...unless maybe you could locate some fresh chicken bones!"

Sheriff

"Maybe some left over gravy, maybe he made soup out of them...who knows?"

Deputy

"Maybe you could find some feathers, got to be around his camp somewhere?"

Sheriff

"Well, this one got away, but I guess she could hatch some new ones..."

Knock on door

Deputy opens it

Dale (Delivery Boy)

"Hello, Sheriff, ah I'm Dale with Western Union delivery, got an important message for you, looks like it's from Fort Kearney!"

Sheriff

"Well thank you Dale, digging out a couple of pennies, here you go, thanks again!"

Sheriff noticing that there was another delivery he had in his pouch, addressed to John Dolson, he reserved comment.

Sheriff starts reading message

Sheriff-Dolson, Kansas...
Lifted limited prosecution for John Dolson...
Do what you have to do...
I'm free and clear on this one...
Good Luck...Judge Timmons...

Deputy

"What does it say, anything new?"

Sheriff

"Well, it looks like Judge Timmons finally released his grip on the prosecution...looks like we're good to go with Dolson...how about that?"

Deputy

"Wonder if that girl, Tomei cast one of her spells or something, seems strange the Judge just changing course like that!"

Sheriff

"I'll have to ask her, nothing would surprise me with her..."

(Scene Switch)

Int: Dolson Bank-9:30 A.M.

John Dolson is in his office doing what he likes to do best, clean his guns.
Knock on door, clerk let's Dale the delivery boy come in.

Dolson

"What is it son?"

Dale

"From Western Union sir, like to give you this urgent message from Fort Kearney sir?"

Dolson

"Well, by all means...hand it over!"

Dale reaching over handing him message.

Dolson reads

You are open for prosecution...
Could not hold out for Chicago...
Do what you need to do pronto...
Good Luck...party boss...

Dolson looks up, and see's Dale still standing there

Dolson

"What is it you want boy, anything wrong?"

Dale

"No sir, just thought..."

Dolson

"Oh, darn (reaching in his drawer flipping him a silver nickel), thanks for bring me the good news, you take care son!"

Dale in awe of the shiny silver nickel

"Oh, thank you sir, shucks the Sheriff only gave me two cents...thank you, thank you so much...bye!"

As Dale leaves the office, Dolson hair starts to stand up on his arms as he realizes the Judge was covering all his bases.

Standing up, he looks at his pocket watch, scratching his chin, talking to himself

"Well, looks like I need to get my britches out of town for a while, hmm!

Clerk walks in

"Anything going on sir?"

Dolson

"Looks like I'm needed in Chicago, might be gone a couple of weeks, think you can handle operations around here?"

Clerk

"No problem sir, me and Andy...maybe I get Sue over here to do some counting, you know!"

Dolson

"Yea, that's good, knew I could count on you..."

(Scene Switch)

Int: Sheriff's Office-10 A.M.

Sheriff

"Well, I'm figuring that Dolson has probably already gotten word...now if that kid didn't..."

Deputy

"Say anything?"

Sheriff

"Exactly...we might have just enough time to pay him a visit...let's go!"

Grabbing hats and exiting office
Walking down street they see dust coming from back of Dolson's bank

Sheriff

"That doesn't look promising..."

Deputy

"Yea, that's Dolson's carriage taking off..."

Sheriff

"By the time we go back and get the horses..."

Deputy

"Depending on where he's going...he could be to the state line by dinner...oh boy!"

Sheriff

"What can we do now...got to get some clues without running around looking under rocks?"

Deputy

"Don't want to seem like I'm trying to put something new into your rule book Sheriff, but maybe we need to go down to Madam Ellis's and see if we can find Tomei...I think she be back from school 'bout 2 or so, whatcha think?"

Sheriff chuckling

"If it was anymore clear, I couldn't have said it any better..."

Deputy

"Not every Sheriff has his own personal Psychic Woman at his calling?"

Sheriff

"Well, it will be a while before we can call her that...she'll be a growing girl for some time to come, but what the heck...let's give it a try...your right though..."

Deputy

"Bout what?"

Sheriff

"Not every Sheriff has the kind of access I seem to have here!

Deputy

"There ya go..."

(Scene Switch)

Int: Madam Ellis's Bordello and Gambling House-2 P.M.

The Sheriff and the Deputy, playing some cards with Toby who owns the General Store

Sheriff

"I'll raise you two bits on this call Toby, what you got Mike?"

Deputy (Mike)

"Too rich for my blood Sheriff, I'm folding..."

You can hear horse coming in from back of building, it's Tomei on her horse coming back from school. She comes in and starts running up the stairs, not paying attention to anyone.

Madam Ellis intercedes

"Oh Tomei, wait...wait girl...some of these nice gentlemen would like to speak to you...can you give them a moment?"

Tomei

"Afternoon Sheriff...Mike...Mister Toby, look...I'm in an awful rush...got to get to my crystals...something is happening and I got to find out if I can fix it!"

Madam Ellis

"Well, you got time to get to your spirit friends, but these men have been waiting to talk with you for over an hour...least you could do is take a breath and find out what they want...do you mind girl?

Tomei

"Sure, I'm sorry...but I'm running the clock here, what may I help you with?"

Sheriff

"Sorry to interrupt your engagement with your spirit freinds, but would you know how we could find out where Mister Dolson has traveled off to...apparently he has fled town, and we kind of wanted to speak to him...you know anything Tomei?"

Tomei laughing on stairs with both hands on hips with a little feminine hip swing

"Well, I swear my wonderful Sheriff...there you go reading my mind before I had a chance to tell you what was on mine...don't forget I'm going to be 15 soon, a big girl you hear?"

Sheriff looking confused

"What in tar-nation are you mumbling about Tomei?"

Tomei laughing, starts walking up stairs

"That's why I have to get to my crystals, I sensed him leaving while I was at school, had to give my horse a good kicking to get my back end over here...I need to find out where he's going, what he's planning to do...I already know about the telegraphs...it was in my thoughts when the Judge issued the transmissions..."

Sheriff

"But how did you manage..."

Tomei

"To know, to figure this out?

Madam Tomei

"I swear, the girl got me grabbing Doc's nerve pills, I'm scared she be looking in on my customers, 'fraid to think anything a shady round her..."

Tomei

"Way ahead of you Sheriff, now while we still have time...I must go to my altar...and Deputy?"

Deputy

"Yes Miss Tomei?"

Tomei

"You should have kept them 3 jacks...the Sheriff was pulling 10's and Mister Toby was doing a bluff...gotta go...let you know as soon as I find something Sheriff, gotta go!"

Tomei running up stairs waving behind her

Everyone looking at each other

Sheriff

"Girl gives me the goose bumps...but I guess if anyone will know..."

Madam Ellis

"Like I say, I don't think impure thoughts around her...no telling what she might fester up."

Mister Toby

"This has been all too interesting, but I best be getting back to my store...thank you everybody, it's been interesting to say the least!"

Sheriff smirking

"Mike, what's that look on your face?"

Deputy

"Bluffing the hired help huh...why you?"

Sheriff

"No, no now listen...it was Toby that was bluffing, I just, I just had..."

Deputy

"Bad cards...is that it Sheriff?"

Sheriff

"Let's get back to the office, we need to follow up on Silvia's chicken napper!"

Deputy

Sir, the law never rest with you does it?"

Sheriff

"Somebody got them chicken bones...

Both leaving the Bordello

Deputy

"Is it soup yet?"

Mystic Trails (8) Stuck In The Mud

Kirk Carter@ Chew Bear Productions@ Copyright 2015

MYSTIC TRAILS (8)

Stuck In The Mud

Narrator

"Judge Timmons based out of Fort Kearney wasn't going to budge with his decision of leaving the alleged criminal banker and town founder alone, free of prosecution from the masterminding of the attempted hold up of the Wells Fargo stage. But, things had changed since the occurrence of Tomei's kidnapping, and the Sheriff was hard pressed to do anything since she refused to file charges for the offence. It just left the Sheriff with no other option than to cut John Dolson loose and let him walk. This option was not sitting well with the Sheriff at all!"

Int: Sheriff's Office-8 a.m.

Sheriff sitting with Deputy Mike, talking things out over a pot of coffee.

Sheriff

"Nature...that's what all this is about...she leaves her calling card to the spirit world, while a man in our custody should be staring at a Hangman's noose!"

Deputy Mike

"Well Sheriff, at least she's okay, put a little scare into her, but can't say anything happened...heck, maybe she's got a point, we just can't see it...maybe her spirit world will give him justice...might be something slow and painful she got intended, cause taking him out quick like that...darn, he might be too good for the rope?"

Sheriff

"Well, we best get over to Doc's and cut him loose."

Deputy

"And what...let nature take it's course?"

Sheriff

"Something like that...come on!"

(Scene Switch)

Ext: Madam Ellis's Bordello-Back Corral

Tomei is preparing Argus (the newly acquired horse through the generosity of the working girls), for the ride to school. She went to strap the saddle on the almost wild Andalusian stud, as Argus got excited, knowing he would be expected to prove himself, to make her happy!

Tomei liked to take the back trails, never a straight line, giving Argus some needed running time. The long scenic route seemed to work well for both of them.

Tomei to Argus

"Oh, your so handsome, yes you are...I'm so glad you came into my life!"

Horse bouncing head in approval, making a loud whinny sound, as she feeds him an apple.

(Scene Switch)

Ext: Doc's Second Floor Living Quarters Above The Clinic

Sheriff shows up with Deputy, knocking on door.

Doc opening door

"Morning Sheriff, come to get your prisoner...still got him chained up where you left him?"

Sheriff

"Sadly...yes, come to release a free man...looks like Tomei's not going to press charges, not much I can do about it..."

Doc

"Well, like I said...he's still where you cuffed him up...probably needs to take a pee, maybe get him some bread and water...I don't know?"

Sheriff

"Guess I reckon, doesn't even seem right does it, but can't hold a man on something that nobody wants to admit happened..."

Doc

"Uh-huh, give me a second to put something on, be down in a sec!"

(Scene Switch)

Ext: Back Corral

Tomei goes to mount Argus, but the horse pushes her away.

Tomei

"What's wrong with you boy, don't you want to run...it'll make us happy?"

Tomei instantly sensed anger, hostility, revenge within Argus...the spirits had picked him to settle a debt. She attempts to grab his reins, but it was too late. Argus jumps the tall fence and is off! Tomei instantly visioned what was about to happen and felt completely helpless from the spirit world to stop Argus's obsession. The horse proceeded in a full gallop down the center of town on the main pathway. Tomei starts running after him in a hopeless pursuit to catch him!

(Scene Switch)

Int: Doc's Office

Sheriff

"Well, I guess your free to go...but you know...we all know what you did...your luck showed itself again...we'll catch up to you eventually, now have a good day!"

John Dolson

"Oh, that's all right...all this was just a big series of misunderstandings...nothing to get too bothered about...hey, thanks for the repairs Doc!"

Doc

"No problem Mister Dolson, that's what I'm here for!"

(Scene Switch)

Narrator

"Argus continues at full gallop, closing in on Doc's office. Mister Dolson leaving office, heading back over to his bank, he turns his head seeing Argus approaching him, holding up both arms, attempting to pull pistol, as horse knocks it out of his hands while running him over, knocking him to the ground.

The Sheriff and Deputy come out of Doc's office seeing Argus stopping in the middle of the pathway and head back toward Mister Dolson who is trying to retrieve pistol laying in road. The horse standing on hind-quarters, starts pouncing on Dolson with front hooves."

Sheriff to Deputy

"You know who's horse that is Mike?

Deputy attempting to corral Argus

"Whoa boy, whoa...I think it belongs to Madam Ellis...got her markings!"

Sheriff

"Well, I really hate just shooting the thing..."

Deputy

"Yea...he does look a little hell-bent on giving Mister Dolson a good stomping...doin a pretty good job too, like he's possessed or something!"

Narrator

"Finally, Mister Dolson manages to do a roll out, get's up, and scurries underneath the breezeway at the General Store and starts yelling at the Sheriff"

Mister Dolson

"What in tar are you waiting for Sheriff...that crazed animal, shoot that thing...go head...take him down!"

Sheriff laughing

"Well Dolson, give him a second to calm down, something got him all fired up...couldn't just shoot at him when you were so close, might have blown a hole in your head

Deputy

"Looks like he's already calmed down Sheriff...you know Dolson's head is so hard, bullet would probably just bounce off!"

Horse walking around, pawing hooves into dirt, trying to look under breezeway.

Tomei comes running up

"Oh Sheriff, I'm so sorry, is everyone all right?"

Sheriff

"I guess it depends on who you ask...now for take Mister Dolson under there, the man hidden under the breezeway shaking for his life...he might have a different opinion."

Tomei looking under building

"What's he doing under there?"

Sheriff pointing

"Right under there, healing his wounds..."

Deputy

"And his pride..."

Sheriff

"That, too...that horse damn near stomped him to death!"

Mister Dolson yelling

"Get rid of that thing right now, you hear me...I demand my rights!"

Sheriff

"Dolson, whatever occurred is not occurring now, I think the horse will be just fine!"

Horse just standing in middle of pathway.
Tomei goes over and grabs reins, starts walking him around, running her hands through his mane.

Tomei yelling under breezeway

"Mister Dolson, are you okay?"

Dolson

"I'll be okay when we make horse steaks out of that menace, I command you to shoot that horse this instant!"

Sheriff

"No such doing, Tomei, would you mind escorting that horse back to his stables young lady?"

Tomei

"Most assuriedly Sheriff...guess Argus got a bit of hate for that man...trying to take care of things...put a little scare in him!"

Sheriff

"Just curious, but would this have anything to do with that spirit world you were speaking about?"

Tomei

"Kind of...like everything...I never know who they might pick on to do their dirty work...'bout all I can offer at this point..."

Dolson sticking head out from breezeway

"I'm going to mandate that that horse be destroyed for attempted murder, you understand me?"

Sheriff

"Now Dolson, gonna be kinda hard to prove that without any witnesses right?"

Dolson

"But, you were standing right there, you saw the whole thing...so was the Deputy."

Sheriff

"Hey Mike, did you see anything?"

Deputy

"I don't recall seeing a darn thing Sheriff!"

Sheriff

"Well, there you see...looks like your word against the horse...and I'm not too sure he's going to say anything...looks like a stand off for the courts to decide...if you brought him plenty of carrots he might testify, but I wouldn't bet my life on it!

Tomei

"Argus likes Apples, but you know...change is good...I'm just glad nobody got hurt!"

Deputy looking at horse close up

"Sheriff, this horse looks perfectly fine to me, can't figure out what your talking about Mister Dolson!"

Tomei mounting horse

"Guess I'll be going, don't wanna be late for school...you'all take care!"

Galloping off

Sheriff laughing

"Hey Dolson, your going to stay under there all day, looks awfully dusty...maybe I can get Bob to bring you some lemonade when he opens the store...of course that's assuming you speak nice to him...that attitude of your is just not neighborly..."

Dolson

"Just leave me alone, you haven't heard the last of this!"

Sheriff

"Well, please excuse us, got work to do this morning, got to get back to the office...we'll be seeing you..."

Deputy

"Yea, don't be a stranger!"

(Scene Switch)

Int: Fort Kearney-Justice Office

Narrator

"Judge Timmons reading a demand notice regarding the prosecution of John Dolson's attempt to rob the Wells Fargo stage months earlier. The Sheriff was pointing out that he had already known about the cover-up regarding J.P. Morgan and the game was up. If he didn't reconsider the case then he would take a field trip to see some members of the new attorneys above him in Washington. However, if Judge Timmons decided to simply allow prosecution, nothing would ever be said about anything. Judge Timmons scratching his long beard."

Judge Timmons talking to clerk

"You know, in a man's life, at some point...we must break down and say we made a few mistakes along the way."

Clerk

"You mean like miscalculations...not you Judge right?"

Judge Timmons

"I'm just a man of law, but I'm still a man...capable of being manipulated by the best of them...I stand accused myself for my selfishness and misjudgment...I just hope the good Lord sees to forgive me for my selfishness!"

Clerk

"So, what are you going to do?"

Judge Timmons

"I'm lifting the restriction...it's time to prosecute...this banker Dolson has simple out grew his britches on this one...it's time to bring him in!
