MYSTIC TRAILS (11)

Judge Takes A Field Trip

Narrator

"Didn't take long for Judge Timmons get the word about the situation with John Dolson turning himself in. So, after receiving the Western Union from the Sheriff, he decided to respond by getting the Army sponsored luxury coach, a few of the best looking soldiers that Fort Kearney could provide, he set off and surprised everybody. Within a wink of an eye.

As you might imagine, the Sheriff and the Deputy just about lost it when Judge Timmons showed up in the morning...John Dolson, too!"

Ext: Dolson, Kansas-Main Street-Sheriff's Office-9 A.M.

Judge Timmons shows up in the Army's Luxury Coach, complete with an 8 man attachment.
4 horses on each side, Sheriff with boots off, just sitting half way through a plate of biscuits and gravy, when he hears the ruckus of a large number of horses coming to a stop.

Sheriff

"What in the hell?"

He grabs his shotgun still in his stocking feet and opens the door.

Judge Timmons being escorted out of the coach

"Good morning Sheriff, thought it was time to pay a little visit, see what we got going on around here?"

Sheriff

"Judge Timmons in the flesh...heck, if I knew you were coming would have put on some more biscuits, how you been doing your honor?"

Deputy Mike looking star-struck

"Wow, this is the first time I ever seen a real judge, got that long hair and everything, just like in the picture books!"

Timmons reaching out to shake Mike's hand

"Pleasure to meet you sir!"

Mike just freezes up

"Yea, ah, ah yes sir, your honor sir, how can I be of help sir, be of need, service?

Judge starts laughing

"Well...nothing right now Deputy..."

Mike

"Name's Mike..."

Judge Timmons

"Okay, Deputy Mike, I'll let you know if I need something, thank you again sir!"

Mike stuttering

"Right, right, right, right sir...I'll be right here..."

Sheriff

"So...you here to interrogate, extradite, prosecute, what's ya got on the table your honor?"

Judge Timmons

"Haven't decided yet, guess I need a few moments with the prisoner and we'll take it from there?

Sheriff acknowledging

"So, to be respectful, show you a little hospitality and all that...bet you could get settled with a little breakfast over at the Ellis House, get your thinking hat straight?

Judge Timmons

"Sounds like a plan to me, let's go!"

(Scene Switch)

Int: Madam Ellis's Card Room

Madam Ellis has Judge seated at end of long table, with the men of the attachment seated on each side, with Sheriff at the other end.
The men of the attachment giving eye to Madam Ellis's ladies as they wink back.

Judge Timmons talking of a prior hanging

"And right before we hanged him, old Joe just started spilling the beans on all these other women he raped and drowned...had to stop the hanging right there just to write all the names down...when they see that rope...they get religious...real fast!"

(Everybody Laughing)

Sheriff

"So, you went ahead?"

Judge Timmons

"Had a dance that was going in two hours in that spot, so we carried the sentence out...but you know, a lot of the girls he talked about were years old when he took them...just never know with some of these characters..."

(Scene Switch)

(1 Hour Later)

Ext: Sheriff's Office

They return to the Sheriff's office.

Sheriff

"Guess you need a moment with Dolson, I'll bring him upstairs if you want?"

Judge Timmons

"Great breakfast by the way, nice of Madam Ellis to give my boys a little R & R...ah, let's see, upstairs does sound good, once again...another great plan Sheriff!"

(Scene Switch)

(30 Minutes Later)

Int: Sheriff's Upstairs Apartment

The Sheriff and the Deputy has escorted a chained up John Dolson upstairs, now secured to a rocking chair.

The Judge makes his way up for the private meeting, just Dolson and the Judge.

Judge to Dolson

"Well son, haven't seen you since Chicago, now look at you!"

John Dolson attempting to be cocky

"Well, I got the paperwork on the loans from J.P. and started the town of Dolson from basically...nothing...that's got to mean something to you right?"

Judge Timmons

"It would, it really would if you didn't start getting all greedy and pushing your weight around...making all those people give up their property cause they were behind a few...I really don't think after looking over this series of cases that I can be much help to you sir!"

John Dolson

"They knew to pay on time...they didn't, so I followed company procedure, that's all that happened..."

Timmons

"Well, this other stuff with the attempted stage hold up...you've overstayed your legitimacy, and I'm afraid your looking at a quick trial and the end of a rope...people like you make me sick!"

Dolson

"But that girl ain't gonna say anything...she already told me she's not pressing any charges!"

Timmons

"What girl...you mean that girl that see's ghost and things?"

Dolson

"They were claiming that I had kidnapped her or something?"

Judge Timmons chuckling

"Wasn't even considering her...you were the one that masterminded the stage hold-up...that's all I need to take you down!"

Dolson

"But wait...I own this town, I started it from scratch, it's mine!"

Judge Timmons leaning over rocking chair

"Look Dolson, you did own this town, but now your in receivership, your ticket has been called, and your in default...your damn lucky your weren't picked up by J.P.'s boys, you'd be long dead and buried...assuming they found any trace of you!"

Dolson starts crying

"But...but I was only looking out for the people..."

Judge

"You weren't looking out for no one but yourself...and yes...now you will hang for your misdoings...we'll see how all this falls into place?"

Judge walks out and tells soldier to get Sheriff.

(Scene Switch)

After Sheriff secures Dolson back in his cell, he talks to Judge

"Well your honor, where are we going with this?"

Judge Timmons

"We're having the trial in the morning, you up for this?"

Sheriff

"Where...we don't have a town hall...no courthouse round here?"

Judge Timmons

"Well, where have you been doing your proceedings, your town business?"

Sheriff

"Usually in the Poker Room at Madam Ellis's...people tend to like showing up if they get a drink out of it, little incentive you know?"

Judge Timmons

"Well, all I know is that the two main witnesses to all this mayhem will be available for testimony and statements to what really happened...that being the stage driver and his rider!"

Sheriff

"Yea, well the only problem with all this, is that all the defense is in the hole."

Judge Timmons

"Well, that makes it pretty much cut and dry doesn't it?"

Sheriff

"What's that?"

Timmons

"Only one more left to bury, and we can put all this to bed once for all!"

Sheriff

"Well, going on telegraphs and meetings with those men, at least when they were all alive, how do you collaborate evidence against Dolson?"

Timmons

"That's why I'm a judge and your not...conspiracy and the execution to a scheme is almost as good in the courtroom, as it is in real life...in other words...it becomes pretty obvious what's going on...it calls itself in...you understand?"

Sheriff

"Seems like a sure thing anyway!"

Timmons

"I do think we need to call over that little Mystic Girl and get her statements down, anything she might have seen or heard?"

Sheriff

"Now, that might be a problem, cause a lot of things she see's and hears' relates to her spirit world friends up in the clouds somewhere...don't really know how her testimony would hold up in a trial?"

Timmons

"She still hear's things in the real world right...and we know that she sensed something long before the incident occurred right...that's enough to convince me!"

Sheriff

"Might be breaking some new ground here?"

Timmons

This might turn out to be one of those legendary trials that will be one for the history books?

Sheriff

"Heck, just prosecuting someone who owns his own town with a conspiracy charge to pad his own bank is legendary enough for me!"

Timmons

"That's right, then add in the spirit world..."

Sheriff laughing

"Now that...that is indeed legendary..."

Timmons

"I think this calls for a drink...we need to locate that Mystic Girl..."

Sheriff

"Sounds like a plan to me, let's go!"
